İbrahim Edhem Efendi

He was born in 1829, a place so called ‘‘Ozbekler tekkesi ’’ (Uzbek dervish lodge) in Turkish. He was the sun of Şeyh Sadık Efendi. He was capable to speak Turkish, Arabic, Persian,and has the ability to perform those languages in different novels according to historical records. He was interested in calligraphy during his old ages, took a letter of sufficiency certificate (called Icazet in Turkish) from a calligrapher called Carsambali Arif bey (1825-1892).He was also known as hazerfen (a type of artistic honor and appreciation during the Ottoman Empire period) due to his artistic skills. After his dead at 08.01.1904 in a Friday night, he was buried to his dervish convent.

Mehmed Necmeddin Okyay

He was born in 28.01.1883 in Üsküdar Toygartepesi region. He was the sun of Mehmet Abdülnebi Efendi. He was one of the most famous calligraphers of Turkish calligraphy art, learned art of marbling from Özbek Şeyhi Ethem Efendi and quiver from an old ottoman sultan archer Seyfettin bey. He learned Celi Silus (a kind of writing style in calligraphy art) and Tuğra (special kind of ottoman symbol) from Tuğrakeş İsmail Bey. He was the founder of flower and calligraphy types of marbling (also known as Necmeddin marbling in literature). He was one the owners of Hazerfen title, died in 05.01.1976 at the age of ninety three. He was buried to Karacaahmet cemetery in Istanbul.

Mustafa Düzgünman

He was born in Sultantepe region of Üsküdar, Istanbul in 09.02.1920. His father was Saim Efendi. After completing his first initial education, he started to work in his father’s herbal shop. His father’s uncle calligrapher Necmettion Okyay, has registered him to state academy of Turkish decorative arts, department of Turkish decoration arts in 1938. In a couple of time later, he left from his school and returned back to his father’s herbal shop. He continued to work in the same place until his death in 1957, and he spent most of his time to modernize classical marbling approach and known to be a respectable marbling artist till now. He was the first artist who introduced daisy marbling into flower marbling types, produced several beautiful examples of flower marbling’s in a traditional manner. Mustafa düzgünman was died in 12th September of 1990, buried to Karacaahmet cemetery in Istanbul.

Sabri Mandıracı

Mr Sabri Mandıracı was born in 1963, Armutlu, Yalova. He was graduated from Istanbul University Department of Philosophy in 1984. He started to take calligraphy courses from Prof.Dr Ali Alparslan in 1980. He met with art of marbling while he was dealing with classical Turkish bookbinding art. He took letter of sufficiency certificate to perform calligraphy and marbling from one of the two old students of Necmeddin Okyay. He was the external teaching instructor of calligraphy and marbling arts in Dokuz Eylul University, Faculty of Art and Sciences between 1992-1998. He is continuing his career as a philosophy teacher.

Alparslan Babaoğlu

He was born in Ankara in 1957 and completed his primary and secondary education in Ankara and Erzurum. He completed his bachelor of science degree in the area of Electronics Engineering in England in 1979 by the help of Turkish government scholarship and also received a master of science in the same field in 1980. He returned back to Turkey after completing his master degree, currently works as a director in a government organization. He is married, has one daughter and a son.

Fuat Başar

He was born in Erzurum in 1953. He completed his primary, secondary, high school and university education in the same city. He was interested to deal with calligraphy in 1976 during his faculty education years. He started to interact with Mustafa Düzgünman by letters due to his deep interest to marbling art. After his settlement to Istanbul, he took calligraphy and marbling certificates from calligrapher Hamit Aytaç in 1990 and marbling artist Mustafa Düzgünman in 1989. He is continuing his career as a professional calligrapher and marbling artist.

Tülay Taslacıoğlu

She was born in Balıkesir in 1969. She completed her primary, secondary and high school education in the same city. She was graduated from Istanbul University Department of Law in 1992. She took some calligraphy and marbling courses from Mr.Fuat Başer in 1986. After receiving her certificate from Fuat Başer, She gave marbling courses in Caferaga theological school for six years. She trained several marbling artists during that period, continuing her artistic works in combination with her lawyer background till now.
